As part of its commitment to providing inspiring, contextual, and up-to-date learning aligned with the latest developments in psychological science, the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) organized a series of guest lectures and an Early Career Jam Session with Dr. Herdiyan Maulana, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., Postdoctoral Fellow from Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ). This postdoctoral program, funded by WCU UNDIP, runs from March 1 to December 31, 2025, with Prof. Dian Ratna Sawitri, Ph.D., serving as Dean of the UNDIP Faculty of Psychology and Chair of the Center for Career, Education, and Capacity Development Studies (CAREERS). The program also includes joint research and publication, aiming to encourage academic collaboration across institutions to broaden students’ perspectives and strengthen the relevance of learning in addressing current workforce challenges.
On March 10, 2025, Dr. Herdiyan Maulana delivered a guest lecture in the “Career Development Across the Lifespan” course with the topic “Meaningful Career: Finding Purpose in Career Planning.” In his presentation, he invited Master’s students of Psychology from the UNDIP Faculty of Psychology and Master’s students of Management from UNDIP’s Faculty of Economics and Business to reflect on career not merely as employment or an economic means, but as a journey to discover life’s purpose that brings positive contributions for oneself and the environment. According to Dr. Herdiyan, a meaningful career is shaped by the alignment of personal values, individual potential, and social needs. He also emphasized the importance of career reflection and self-awareness in designing a sustainable career. Through an interactive approach, students were encouraged to explore experiences, aspirations, and values they consider important in determining the direction of their future careers.
The following day, March 11, 2025, Dr. Herdiyan returned for the “Family Issues in the Workplace” course, involving Master’s students of Psychology at the UNDIP Faculty of Psychology and Master’s students of Management at UNDIP’s Faculty of Economics and Business, with the topic “Workplace Gratitude & Family Happiness: The Keys to Holistic Well-being.” In this session, he highlighted the close relationship between gratitude at work, family happiness, and comprehensive psychological well-being. Dr. Herdiyan explained that a grateful attitude in the workplace not only increases job satisfaction but also strengthens social relationships, reduces stress, and fosters a positive atmosphere at home. Furthermore, he discussed recent research findings on how work-family enrichment can enhance individual well-being, especially for young adults starting their careers while building their family life. Through case studies and group discussions, students were encouraged to understand the importance of balancing professional and personal roles as part of overall life happiness.
Herdiyan Maulana, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D. then became one of the speakers in the Early Career Jam Session for young lecturers, themed “Building Academic Competence among Young Lecturers for Career Sustainability and Institutional Development,” along with fellow speaker Rizal Hari Magnadi, S.E., M.M. (Lecturer at the Department of Management, UNDIP Faculty of Economics and Business). Both shared their experiences of pursuing doctoral studies abroad, the various challenges they faced, and how to build resilience and contribute optimally upon returning to Universitas Diponegoro.
