To strengthen global collaboration and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Faculty of Psychology Universitas Diponegoro, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), held a three-day training and workshop focusing on migration health and psychosocial care. This event brought together IOM staff, refugee volunteers, and academics to share knowledge and build capacity in addressing the mental and physical well-being of migrants and their caregivers. The program commenced with remarks from Mr. Jeffrey Labovitz, Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and Prof. Dian Ratna Sawitri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at Diponegoro University.
On Day 1, the session included a comprehensive presentation by Prof. Guglielmo Schininà, Head of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Program (MHPSP) at IOM Global – Geneva, on the topic of “Mental Health for Immigrants and Their Caregivers.” On Day 2, Yasmine A. Gunawan, S.Psi., M.Sc., from Asia University, Taiwan, presented on “How Exercise Reduces Mental Load and Enhances Heart Rate Variability (HRV),” emphasising the connection between physical activity and mental well-being. On Day 3, Ir. Titik Istirokhatun, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM, from the Faculty of Engineering at UNDIP, delivered a presentation titled “Household Waste Management,” highlighting the environmental dimensions of community well-being. Every day, following the material delivery session, the facilitators, Yohanis Franz La Kahija, S.Psi., M.Sc., and Dr Kartika Sari Dewi, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist, led an in-depth discussion on refugee mental health cases and best practices.
This collaboration includes initiatives that are in line with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education as well as additional initiatives that Faculty of Psychology Universitas Diponegoro and IOM Indonesia have mutually agreed on:

Training on mental health in the context of humanitarian work.
Management of stress and burnout among employees who assist refugees.
Psychological First Aid (PFA).
3. Training for Refugees
An overview of emotions and mental health.
Relaxation techniques and stress management.
Resilience-building activities and community support.
This international community service initiative is part of UNDIP’s broader mission to connect academic innovation with real-world impact and move closer toward its vision of becoming one of the Top 500 World-Class Universities. The collaboration also opens doors for future joint research, capacity building, and sustainable community programs.
