The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held a Visiting Professor Program by inviting Prof. Hans De Witte, Ph.D., a leading expert in work psychology from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, KU Leuven, Belgium, on November 6, 2025. In a lecture entitled “An Introduction to Job Insecurity,” Prof. De Witte discussed the phenomenon of job insecurity as a subjective concern about the continuity of future employment, which affects not only individuals but also the overall dynamics of organizations.
In his presentation, Prof. De Witte explained that job insecurity is a stressor that negatively impacts employees’ psychological well-being, such as increased stress, anxiety, and burnout, as well as decreased job satisfaction and organizational commitment. He also highlighted cross-country findings showing that strong social policies and employment systems can lessen the negative effects of job insecurity on individual well-being and organizational performance.
In closing, Prof. De Witte emphasized the importance of interventions focused on increasing both individual and organizational control over job uncertainty through four main strategies: transparent communication, employee participation in decision-making, enhancing employability, and implementing organizational justice. This event enriched the knowledge of students and faculty of UNDIP’s Faculty of Psychology in understanding the challenges of modern employment and strengthened international academic networks in the field of work psychology.
